Farewell to the legislation lords
Periods / David Pannick QC: These days the legislation lords sit to give judgment for the previous time in the Household of Lords and, as Lord Hope of Craighead claimed there previous week, the upper chamber will be “losing aspect of itself”. From October the legislation lords will come to be Justices of the Supreme Court, produced beneath the Constitutional Reform Act 2005. As the legislation lords give judgments for the previous time, we should really rejoice the institution whose everyday living is coming to an end….

Sudanese journalist quits UN job to go on trial for putting on trousers
Guardian: A  woman Sudanese journalist going through 40 lashes for putting on trousers in community instructed a packed Khartoum courtroom yesterday that she was resigning from a UN job that grants her immunity so that she could problem the legislation on women’s dress.

Lubna Hussein was amongst 13 women of all ages arrested on 3 July in a raid by customers of the community buy police power on a well-known Khartoum cafe. The women of all ages ended up all putting on trousers, thought of indecent beneath the rigid interpretation of Islamic legislation adopted by Sudan’s Islamic routine. All but a few of the women of all ages ended up flogged at a police station two times later on.
