OH! San Diego Tours on Saturday, Mar. 7

Founded in 1978, The San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the education and promotion of outstanding architecture, landscape, interior, and urban design to improve the quality of life for all San Diegans. Every year they have a three day event called Open House (OH!) San Diego. OH! San Diego is San Diego’s largest architectural event and provides behind-the-scenes access to, and in-depth information about the architecture and design of our city’s finest buildings and spaces to the public for FREE, and the San Diego Law Library’s Downtown Location  has been selected as one of the architectural gems!

You can see the beauty of the law library for yourself on Saturday, March 7, from 10 am to 4 pm. We are offering both self-guided and guided tours on a first come, first served basis. Guided tours will occur on the half hour between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm.

Our Downtown location was custom built in 1958 as a public resource for people needing legal assistance. The building boasts an iconic floating staircase, black Escondido granite facings, floor-to-ceiling west-facing windows, white Carrara marble floors, a buried peek-a-boo time capsule, and one-of-a-kind spaces. We have also added some amazing modern touches, like state-of-the-art training rooms, and a magical employee lounge.

SDLL is part of the Downtown neighborhood tour, but there are a total of nine neighborhoods with 93 locations offering self-guided, guided, and expert-led tours. Each location provides attendees with a wide range of fascinating experiences showcasing San Diego’s architectural diversity. So, bring your friends and family for a unique (and free!) weekend of urban exploration, and don’t forget your camera! There is an architectural photo contest with prizes. Also, many of the other locations require advanced reservations and are filling up fast. Book your spot now!

And, for all the future architects, on Saturday in La Jolla, and Sunday in Coronado, kids can participate in KidsSketch. KidsSketch is a program that invites children to observe and sketch architecture under guidance of local architects. If they register in advance (using the links) they can receive a FREE SKETCHBOOK!
