Is Legal Tech News Dominated By Headlines of Money?
Site and software veteran, Dave Winer, had an a attention-grabbing comment around on Twitter,
In common journalism must report tech that is really remaining employed to do new factors, not on VCs hyping concepts of issues that will make them even richer but do not in fact do anything for anyone. If a VC is marketing a little something that simple fact alone ought to make you suspicious.

To which I responded,
This is a flaw in legal tech reporting. However lawful journalism does address tech strengthening access to justice and the shipping of legal companies, the greatest headlines are often about funding and hyping ideas building VC’s much more funds. https://t.co/4FYBWi4Pct

There is an awful large amount of news in legal tech protection about individuals producing revenue.
VC’s out to make extra cash by investing in organizations, VC’s producing income as a consequence of an exit/acquisition, entrepreneurs landing tens of millions in funding, business people earning tens of millions in an exit/acquisition, companies making an attempt to go community in purchase for them and VC’s to make tens of millions.
Authorized tech, to me, is about increasing entry to justice and bettering the delivery of legal solutions. This way persons and businesses are far better served.
No concern, in most situations, it can take income to get these issues performed. And dollars, other than financial debt, is heading to just take traders getting fairness and an exit approach.
VC’s and private fairness corporations seem to make a splash in the news in any investment decision and acquisition. It’s what they do and what they spend for in internet marketing/communications dollars. Practically nothing completely wrong with this, for every se, just influences what we listen to.
No problem, the headlines of income do get my consideration. From time to time tends to make me query why I didn’t just take other’s dollars, as opposed to self-funding, or promote my corporation. )
These kinds of headlines likely get extra notice of the lawful tech local community, as a complete, than the headlines of what tech is carrying out to improve people’s lives.
Having said that, skimming by means of the headlines of lawful tech in my Feedly news feeds, the headlines of funds characterize a lot less than 10% of the lawful tech headlines.
Most of the headlines represent developments in the use of lawful tech, some headlines even about how this sort of use is positively impacting obtain to justice.
Vital to take note, also, is that my buddy, Robert Ambrogi, is just one of the leaders – if not the leader – in legal tech coverage in the States. Ambrogi wears access to justice on his sleeve.
In addition to reporting on the subject matter, he has consulted with tech organizations, courts and other lawful corporations on lawful tech and innovation and how they can enhance the supply of authorized solutions.
My take is cash grabs focus, but it could be a lot worse.
