What to Do After College

Upon graduating from college, most people have been in school for over 16 years. That’s a long time to follow a schedule that is created by someone else. But after the final exams are over, what are you going to do? The question is full of hope, promise and excitement but it is also just the beginning of a long list of unanswered questions. That can be pretty unsettling. It is certainly time to plan for the future. Click here for information on plotting the course for your professional future.

Very few people really know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life. The almost unlimited choices can seem too huge to narrow down but there are some great resources to help you select the direction that is perfect for you. They will help you to answer some important questions.

  • What do you like? That makes perfect sense, you want to know that the career you are embarking on is going to be something that you enjoy.
  • What are you good at? Again, it makes sense because you want to choose a job that you will excel at. Success and advancement in your career will keep it exciting and interesting and make it even more enjoyable.
  • Not sure what you would be good at or what you want to do long term? Why not do some reading and learn about different careers, what the jobs entail and what degree or background you need to get into the field. You might find that a job you thought was perfect for you is really not at all what you expected it to be. Read blogs or essays from people your age who are doing the job and hear about their first hand experiences.
  • Still not sure what your perfect job is? Why not try a career placement quiz. Sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know. Why limit your career choices to jobs that you are familiar with? A placement test will take your interests and skills and apply that information to a huge array of possible jobs, maybe even some that you never heard of before.
