Our close friends at the San Diego County Bar Affiliation [SDCBA] are hosting this celebration, and we had been so interested in this topic that we determined to be a co-sponsor!
In this application, Michele Goodwin, award-winning author, advocate, social commentator, and professor of regulation at College of California, Irvine, will mirror on regulation as an institution and resource that historically shielded and superior racism. From the Antebellum period of time through Jim Crow, law’s part in advancing white supremacy and racial injustice was visible through the legalization of slavery, slave patrols, fugitive slave legal guidelines, legal guidelines that supplied for the bodily torture of enslaved folks on through Black Codes enacted in the course of Reconstruction and “separate but equal legal guidelines.”
Professor Goodwin will talk about why recognizing and reckoning with regulation as an accomplice and facilitator of discrimination and racism are overdue and urgent in safeguarding the rule of regulation. Her chat will close by articulating why law’s part and duty in dismantling discrimination and racism are critical in advertising and marketing the rule of regulation.
